SYLVIA Comes to La Monnaie De Munt Next Month SYLVIA runs at the La Monnaie De Munt now through Oct. 12.

'Intoxicated with madness, I'm in love with my sadness', 'I desire the things which will destroy me in the end.' The diaries of Sylvia Plath, the US poet and essayist who committed suicide at the age of thirty in 1963, bear witness to her depression and mental desperation.

The Belgian theatre maker, Fabrice Murgia, delved into these tragic documents in search of the soul of this brilliant poet. Sylvia is a pop opera for a single female singer and fifteen women, an original musical show with a libretto by himself and music by the Belgian pianist and singer-songwriter An Pierlé. With the aid of photographic images, Murgia sets out to present a portrait of Sylvia Plath and of other women in literature. Following the circus opera Daral Shaga, La Monnaie now stages another of his music-theatre projects.
