Student Blog: Back to Pitt!

Choosing classes for college is always difficult experience. I was able to start the process all the way back in March to be able to take the classes I want this fall. And with more in person classes than last year, I am ecstatic to learn as many new things as I can. So, with that, these are 3 out of my 5 classes that I am most excited to take.

First is a class called Enjoying Performances. It is a theatre class so I can use it to count for my theatre arts minor. And it isn't t exactly what you think. It's not about different companies or theatres putting on shows, it is about how humans perform in their daily lives. It could be public speaking, protesting or many other forms where your voice or purpose is heard by other people. This class is twice a week, and I am very excited to dive into more interpretive theatre work and how I can recognize performance in my daily life.

The next class I am excited for is Geology. Now being an English Writing major, I really wanted to avoid Biology and Chemistry as my science credits and luckily, I can. My freshman year I took Introduction to Psychology and Basics of Space Flight and this year I wanted to try something new. Geology seems like the perfect fit. It doesn't seem too math heavy or difficult to understand. So, I am excited to get my last science class out of the way this semester.

The last class I am most excited for is Harry Potter. Yes, that's the name of it. Harry Potter. Now I can't remember where I first heard about this class, it might have been on Admitted Students' Day, but I remembered that Pitt had interesting and unique classes about once a year and Harry Potter was one of them. I decided I really wanted to try and get in because the class was able to count for one of my general education requirements. When the day for class enrollment came, I enrolled as soon as I could. And I was wait listed. There were not enough seats with too many people trying to get in. I was 17th in line to be specific. Over the course of the rest of the semester and into the summer, I would check my place in line every couple of days. I got so excited even if I moved one place in line. When I got to 4th place, I started getting eager. Then, just a few days ago, I received the email that I had gotten in. I smiled so big. I have loved Harry Potter since elementary school, so I am so hyped to dive deep into the literary analysis of not only the books but the entire Wizarding World.

My other class are exciting too or else I wouldn't have enrolled in them but regardless these are the classes I am most interested in. I hope this semester goes smooth and I still have the stamina for in person school again after not having them for over a year. Wish me luck!
