Strand Theater Co Seeks Production Stage Manager & Musical Director

By: Jul. 29, 2011

The Strand Theater Company is seeking a Production Stage Manager and Musical Director for Anna Bella Eema by Lisa D'Amour. Rehearsals begin the week of August 8, and usually take place 3 nights per week (7-10pm) with weekend rehearsals as necessary. The production runs October 7-22, 2011.

Stage Manager rehearsal responsibilities will include: maintaining a prompt script and production book (to include all blocking notations, light and sound cues, prop list, production calendar, contact list, rehearsal reports and performance logs), call cues to begin action (curtain, light, sounds, etc.), record script/blocking changes, and prompt actors. Once the show opens, the Stage Manager is responsible for maintaining the show as rehearsed, calling the show and communicating any problems that arise to the appropriate person. The ideal person will display strong organizational, interpersonal, and "think on your feet" skills. The Strand recognizes the extreme importance of a responsible Stage Manager. All Stage Managers are given the opportunity to grow within the Strand if desired.

Musical Director rehearsal responsibilities include: working with the cast on all aspects of the music. Anna Bella Eema contains 5 songs, sung a cappella by 3 women. The musical director would be responsible for leading 4-5 music rehearsals, as well as attending rehearsals and tech as needed. Schedule is flexible.

Stage Managers are paid a $200 honorarium.
Musical Director is paid a $100 honorarium.

About the Show: Cast: 3 women
Ten-year-old Anna Bella and her hermetic mother Irene live in a ratty trailer on The Edge of town. When their trailer park is slated for demolition because of interstate highway expansion, Irene refuses to leave. In this moment of crisis, Anna Bella creates a new girl out of the mud behind their trailer home. This mud-girl helps Anna Bella and Irene channel the supernatural and face the life they must live in the world outside their trailer home. A richly imagined tale of a fierce mother/daughter bond, spoken and sung by three women.
