Strand Theater Company plays host to the Momma Drama theater group from San Francisco, Calif. After 9 years of sold out shows, Momma Drama is presenting the East Coast premier of its highly acclaimed production StrechMarks: Growing into Motherhood. The play opens tonight, June 22, and BroadwayWorld has a teaser from the show.  Click below to watch a rehearsal of "Mommas Do the Hump."

The play describes a journey of three new mothers, who learn what not to expect when they're expecting, how to find strength in themselves and their friendships, and ultimately make their way into the uncharted waters of motherhood. This guest production runs at the Strand for one weekend only, June 22-24th, Friday and Saturday evenings at 8pm, and Saturday and Sunday matinees at 1pm.

About the Show: “Strechmarks” was conceived in 2003, when four women from the San Francisco Bay area got together to share their experiences of new motherhood. They all had children under the age of 3 at the time. They were all a bit sleep deprived, and a little overwhelmed, but wanted to connect with the other moms to try and see if there was a common thread of what they were feeling. They wanted to express how incredible it was to experience the beginning of a new life. And no, they weren’t talking about the baby…everybody talks about the baby. They were talking about ~the momma~. We often forget that when the baby is born, so too is a mother. “Stretchmarks” is ultimately a play that much like motherhood…makes you laugh and cry all within the same whirlwind of a moment. And although it does not sugar coat or glamorize anything, at the end of the day, it is basically a love story about motherhood.

Performance Schedule: Friday, June 22nd at 8:00 pm, Saturdays, June 23rd at 1pm and 8:00 pm and Sunday, June 24th at 1:00 pm. General Admission: $25. For tickets and more information, visit strand-theater.org.
