Coming Soon to Greenbelt Arts Center: A VISIT FROM SCARFACE

Hollywood 1932- Prohibition will soon be going out but the Will Hays production code is coming in to watch over Hollywood movies for content not suitable for the American Public.During this time Billionaire Howard Hughes is producing a movie called SCARFACE about a fictional gangster with that name and has hired famed writer Ben Hecht to write the screenplay.

What would happen if a certain real gangster of that time gets wind of the project and sends some "associates" of his to visit Hecht and see how close the story is to the real SCARFACE's life. A VISIT FROM SCARFACE takes that idea and brings real and fictional characters to a Hollywood Hotel suite one afternoon to see what might have happen on a typical madcap day in Hollywood.

About the Greenbelt Arts Center

Nestled in historic Old Greenbelt in the Roosevelt Center, the Greenbelt Arts Center is both a Community Theater company, known for high-quality shows that showcase the experience and talent of our performers and crews who manage to fit their love of the performing arts into their busy lives, and a performance space for guest events and productions.

GAC is a "black box" theater. The seats may be re-arranged for each production, allowing maximum flexibility for directors. The three-quarter thrust is our most common arrangement, with audience surrounding the stage on three sides. A proscenium stage is possible here too, with the audience facing the stage which is framed like a picture with an arch. GAC has also used an arena arrangement (with seats on all four sides and the stage in the center), a turning stage, and a cafe-style seating arrangement with patrons at tables while they watch the show.

The theater can hold 85-100 audience members depending on the seating style chosen for the show. All seating is General Admission. There are no assigned seats.

Buy your tickets in advance to guarantee your space in the performance. (Unclaimed unpaid reservations are released 15 minutes prior to showtime and may be resold to waiting patrons.)

Come a little early and enjoy the displays by local artists and photographers in our lobby gallery. And enjoy the show!

Review: TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD at Hippodrome Theatre Photo
What did our critic think of TO KILL A MOCKING BIRD at Hippodrome Theatre? Chances are, if you're a product of the American education system, you read Harper Lee's 1960 Pulitzer Prize-winning novel, TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD, in high school or college. And if you didn't, you've likely seen the 1962 film of the same name featuring Gregory Peck in perhaps his most famed role, lawyer and bastion of decency, Atticus Finch. The plot involving Atticus and his children, Scout and Jem, is in some ways, quite 'straightforward.' Atticus is asked to represent Tom Robinson, a black man falsely accused of raping a white woman. It's deep South, Alabama, 1934. It's not going to end well. However, it's what happens along the way, and afterwards, that makes this novel so worth reading, and this play, so worth watching.
