Teresa Rodrick - Page 4

Teresa Rodrick My name is Teresa Rodrick, I was born in Edmonds, Washington - grew up in Mountlake Terrace (WA), married a man from Everett (WA) and my folks moved to Lake Stevens (WA). So when asked, I say I am from the Seattle Area. Way back when I was in high school, I was given lines to perform to open a play (I was a choir girl) and I still remember a part of the line: “No one stopped to give him gladsome looks.” I was then in two other plays. From there I married my husband in June 1990. He was military and we moved around a bit. Our children were born during this time. We lived in England for 2 years, Germany for 6 years and moved to San Antonio, Texas. In San Antonio, I decided I had put my own career off long enough and started going to Palo Alto Community College. I got my Associates Degree in Drama in May 2005. From San Antonio, we moved back to England for just over 3 years. I did one stint in community theatre there. From there we moved to Boise, Idaho. I received my Bachelors in Arts in Theatre Arts with an emphasis in Secondary Education in May 2012 from Boise State University.

For this production of DEATHTRAP, you notice that it is a home. Maybe a summer or winter home, but definitely someone's house. The walls are covered from floor to ceiling with weaponry: guns, knives, swords. It reminded me of the museum at the Tower of London. The Scenic Designer is Russell Matheny.

I thought the students did a good job with their production. You could tell that the students enjoyed the characters they were playing and they had fun presenting a musical.

This is a large cast show, there are 17 characters: 2 lawyers, 1 judge, a court reporter, 1 defendant, 2 accusers, and 10 witnesses. With so many people, you will definitely need to pay attention, you may even want to take notes. You don't want to make the wrong choice of Guilty, or Not Guilty.

After my experience with the story, I thought I knew the characters G(a)linda and Elphaba, however Kara Lindsay (G[a]linda) and Laurel Harris (Elphaba) have shown me new characters. Their singing and acting styles have put two new characters on stage that haven't been seen before. I would have been happy to have these two introduce the characters to me, as it was, I enjoyed them showing me another side of each character.

Idaho Arts Charter in Nampa (high school) invited me to come and review their show BLACK COMEDY by Peter Shaffer. If I do not know the play, I try not to walk in the door with expectation, however, with this title, I was thinking it was going to be a 'dark comedy'. I was pleasantly surprised that it was not.

This is an audience participation show. During the director's speech when she would asked the 'munchkins' (what the audience is referred to) if they would be willing to help a few shook their heads 'no'. It was so much fun to watch once the show started, all of the munchkins were almost hopping up to help even before characters asked.

Harvey. Good ol' Ha-Ha-Har-Harvey. Harvey may be one of the most beloved movies starring Jimmy Stewart. That movie was based on this play by Mary Chase. Wendy Koeppl directed this production at Boise Little Theater and it was a very sweet production.

I have always loved ANNE (with an 'e') OF GREEN GABLES since I was a little girl. I still own all 8 books and the three movies that were made starring Megan Follows. I was very excited to find out that Encore Theatre, etc was producing the play by Alice Chadwicke based on the novels by L.M. Montgomery, as I had not yet seen the play.

They went through 4 short scenes, and the last of the short scenes was actually student written. (This is the main reason I think these kinds of night should happen more often around the valley) There was a 10 minute intermission, then they performed 13 WAYS TO SCREW UP YOUR COLLEGE INTERVIEW. There did not appear to be a unifying theme to the plays/scenes but there does not need to be on nights like this, although it can sometimes help the audience.

Kudos to the cast and crew. The costumes for the muses were inspired with tiaras depicting what they represented making it easier to tell them apart. There was an absolute Greek flair to all the costumes, except for the 'mortals'. And those costumes were very much from the 1980's.

Going to a production at BSU is always exciting. You never know the configuration of the show until you walk in the doors. This time, there was a soft warm light and the stage was an elongated diamond. The seating was face-to-face but with slight angling to follow the diamond shape. There was a fun brick pattern on the floor that the actors were able to play with a bit (following the path, almost like labyrinths). There were arches at either end of the diamond and under one was a 5 person/6 piece orchestra

BWW Reviews: BUS STOP Shows A Slice of Life
March 10, 2014

Boise Little Theater is continuing their 66th season with BUS STOP by William Inge. BUS STOP is a story that takes place in a diner in Kansas during the late winter ('in like a lion' is mentioned a few times early in the play) in 1955. The era of bobby socks, Happy Days and Rock n' Roll. It is a story of the passengers on the bus who are stranded overnight due to a storm. There are 4 passengers, not including the bus driver, and none of them are happy to be stranded at Grace's Diner.

Sally Struthers portrays Dolly Levi in this production. In the age of YouTube there are many versions of Dolly out there to find by famous divas of the stage and each has made Dolly their own part. Sally Struthers can now be added to that list of 'Dolly divas'. Her little quirks and joyful sounds throughout the production has created a Dolly Levi that those of us in Boise who were lucky enough to see, will not forget.

The Pride Foundation has teamed up with Stage Coach Theatre to bring a beautiful mix of stories and struggles that can happen in the lives of LGBTQ community, via the musical RENT. With the 'Religious Rights' bill in the Idaho State Senate (currently on hold and also known as 'Anti-Gay Bill') this show is even more important to produce now as ever.

February 19, 2014

From the opening speech we learn that there is going to be an intermission for this play, which is a little unusual for a Boise Contemporary Theater production. But we find out that it is so what has happened has a chance to sink in and gives us, the audience, a chance to talk out what might be happening. We cannot begin to guess at what was about to happen or how it was going to affect us.
