The Old Globe's presentation of Kiss Me, Kate, the classic musical comedy featuring a book by Sam and Bella Spewackand an iconic score by Cole Porter, is a spectacular revival in collaboration with Hartford Stage, choreographed by Peggy Hickey and directed by Hartford Stage Artistic Director and former Old Globe Shakespeare Festival Artistic Director Darko Tresnjak, who won the 2014 Tony Award for Best Direction of a Musical for A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder, which made its world premiere at The Old Globe and Hartford Stage in 2013. The Old Globe engagement runs now through August 2, with opening night tonight, July 9, on the Donald and Darlene ShileyStage in the Old Globe Theatre, part of the Globe's Conrad Prebys Theatre Center. MIGHTY REAL: A FABULOUS SYLVESTER MUSICAL, the hit musical celebration of the life and music of the original 1970s 'Queen of Disco,' Sylvester, was featured on TV One's award-winning series 'Unsung.' The musical's creators Anthony Wayne and Kendrell Bowman, along with co-producer Sheryl Lee Ralph, appeared on 'Unsung Revisted' on July 1st -- featuring a follow-up to the series' profile of Sylvester, which inspired Wayne and Bowman to create the musical. The Irish Repertory Theatre welcomes the return of the critically-acclaimed revival of Conor McPherson's THE WEIR, directed by Ciaran O'Reilly, this summer. THE WEIR began previews on Tuesday, June 30th and will be performed through Sunday, August 23rd at the DR2 Theatre, located at 103 East 15th Street in Union Square (the Irish Rep's temporary home during renovation of its home base in Chelsea). The world premiere production of 'How to be a Rock Critic' continues through June 28 in a limited engagement of 12 performances at the Center Theatre Group/Kirk Douglas Theatre. Based on the writing of Lester Bangs, the rock critic who reached iconic status in the 1970s with his passionate, intellectually honest writing, 'How to be a Rock Critic' will be performed in the theatre's rehearsal space, Upstairs@KDT.
