Redefining what it means to "work" in Lower Manhattan, 26 emerging artists and writers have been awarded studio residencies in LMCC's Workspace program, the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council (LMCC) announced today. Each artist will be granted free studio space in minimally adapted, temporarily vacant office space donated by Goldman Sachs, Co in Lower Manhattan at One Liberty Plaza, and will have access to talks and seminars, public programs, access to a network of peers and new audiences, a financial stipend and other professional development opportunities.

Due to popular demand, Mary-Arrchie Theatre Co.'s hit production of SUPERIOR DONUTS will add two additional weeks of performances - extending through December 9, 2012 at The Royal George Cabaret Theatre, 1641 N. Halsted St. in Chicago. Written by Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Tracy Letts and directed by Matt Miller, the critically acclaimed remount features nearly all of the original Mary-Arrchie cast members.

The Albuquerque Theatre Guild (ATG) has awarded a $500 grant to the Rio Grande Players (RGP) as part of a pilot program to fund member-generated projects. The grant will to help defray the cost of purchasing portable sound-amplification equipment to enable the group to take its free productions to more venues that do not have sound systems.

Country Dance*New York will present the Fall Fling contra dance on Saturday, November 17, 2012 from 9:00 pm to 11:45 pm at the Chinatown YMCA's Houston Street Center (273 Bowery, near Houston Street, Manhattan). No previous experience is required. From 8:30 pm to 9:00 pm there is a beginner's contra workshop, and the caller walks everyone through the patterns of each dance. There is also a contra dance for experienced dancers from 5:45 pm to 7:45 pm.

The 41st annual Heida Hermanns International Voice Competition, a two-day event presented by the Connecticut Alliance for Music (CAM) with the support of the Westport Arts Center, will bring together young musicians from around the world at Westport Town Hall, 110 Myrtle Avenue, Westport, on Saturday and Sunday, December 1 and 2. The bi-annual competition is named for the late Heida Hermanns, a world-class concert pianist and music lover, who lived in Westport for more than 40 years.
