The Guthrie Theater's 50th season was inaugurated with the Christopher Hampton Celebration: a three-play festival occupying each of the Guthrie's stages, as well as a series of talks, events and appearances by Hampton and others that demonstrated the unique opportunities afforded by the Guthrie's Mississippi riverfront facility and the engaged and dynamic Twin Cities community.

Eric Anderson (Kinky Boots, South Pacific), Jack Doyle (Young Frankenstein, The Music Man), Marissa Perry (Sister Act, Hairspray) and David Perlman (Yank!, Baby It's You!) have joined the cast of UnsungMusicalsCo. (UMC)'s upcoming developmental reading of Sounds Like Love, a new comedy by Arnold B. Horwitt (Make Mine Manhattan, Plain and Fancy) featuring three original songs by Horwitt, Tony Award winner Albert Hague (Plain and Fancy, The Fig Leaves Are Falling) and Grammy Award winner Allan Sherman (The Fig Leaves Are Falling).

Scott Morfee, Jean Doumanian and Tom Wirtshafter, the producers of Tribes by Nina Raine, announced today the acclaimed Off-Broadway hit play has officially recouped its entire investment. Tribes began performances February 16, 2012 and opened to rave reviews on March 4, 2012 at The Barrow Street Theatre (27 Barrow Street) where it will give its final performance January 6, 2013.

Renaissance Theaterworks (RTW) is working with a local visual artist, Kathryne Martin, for the production of THE ROAD TO MECCA by Athol Fugard. Thanks to the support of the Mary L. Nohl Fund, Kathryne is working on many small owl sculptures that mirror the real-life work of the main character in the play, Helen Martins of South Africa. Ms. Helen's work and life bear surprising similarities to Milwaukee's own Mary Nohl's life.

Due to a scheduling conflict, the Kindling Theater Company will now present its inaugural production, the world premiere of The Future Is Not What It Was, written by Michael Rabe and directed by Jay Stull, beginning Saturday, January 12 at 8pm. The production, formerly scheduled for The Wild Project, will instead be presented at Soho Rep's Walkerspace, 46 Walker Street. The new opening night is set for Monday, January 21 at 8pm.

This engaging musical adaptation is based on the classic novel, A Little Princess, by Frances Hodgson Burnett. Sara Crewe, heiress to a large fortune, is enrolled at Miss Minchin's Select Seminary for Young Ladies in Victorian England. At first her life is happy, but news arrives that her father has died and her fortune is lost. Sara is forced to become a servant and must live in a small attic room that seems no better than a prison cell. When a mysterious gentleman from India takes the house next door, some strange and curious things begin to happen. A touching and beautiful score adds a magical touch to this enchanting show. This show is suitable for the whole family.

Pace University's Pace New Musicals program, dedicated to the discovery of new theater works, and Ryan Scott Oliver, composer-lyricist and producer, have selected I Capture the Castle by Marion Adler, Peter Foley and Cara Reichel, as its official 2013 selection. In addition, Pace New Musicals has instated a New Musical Lab beginning with Make Me Bad, by Drew Gasparini and Alex Brightman.
