The John W. Engeman Theater's production of The Music Man, running March 27 - May 18, tells the story of fast-talking traveling salesman Harold Hill and his plans to con the people of River City, Iowa. He sells them instruments and promises to train the townspeople to be a professional band. Hill, who doesn't know a trombone from a treble clef, plans to skip town with the money without giving any music lessions at all - until he falls in love with Marian the librarian. Composer Andrew Lloyd Webber's theatre company, The Really Useful Group, has split into two separate companies, the Telegraph reports. In a recent article, the Telegraph has revealed that a look at the company's accounts reveals a demerger in Webber's company. The Really Useful Group is now joined by a separate company, Really Useful Theatres, which is set to bring in millions through its programming at all its West End theatres - including Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Matilda.

Five voice students were named winners of the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music's (CCM) 2014 Opera Scholarship Competition, which was held Saturday, March 15, in UC's Corbett Auditorium. The annual competition welcomes current and incoming CCM voice students to compete for scholarships and cash prizes, and a panel of judges composed of opera industry professionals selects each year's class of prizewinners.

Hot on the heels of Les Miserables' box office success, Broadway producer Cameron Mackintosh has set his sights on a film version of Miss Saigon, according to the Associated Press. He also told the AP in an interview that he wants to revisit My Fair Lady ('One day', Mackintosh said) and Oliver!, but conceded that the role of Fagin, which is extremely difficult to cast, may prove daunting.

A video of two daughters surprising their mother with a ticket to Motown The Musical went viral this past Christmas, especially within the New York theatre circles - but no one was quite sure how the family, who had struggled to pay for the ticket, was going to actually get to Broadway. Side Show, based on the true life story of conjoined twins Daisy and Violet Hilton, is set to be revived at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. in performances running from June 14 - July 13, 2014. Side Show originally opened on Broadway in 1997, starring Alice Ripley and Emily Skinner as the Hilton twins. Telling the story of their rise from circus attractions to famous vaudeville performers during the Great Depression, Side Show brings us the sisters' lifelong search for fortune, romance, and a spot on the stage.

You can drag a Holmes to water, but you can't make him drink. The beleaguered Holmes parents brought their highly functioning sociopath of a son - and presumably Mycroft, though the whole venture was likely his idea - to see several Broadway musicals, and Sherlock didn't disappoint. While his family was enjoying popular showstoppers like 'Brotherhood of Man', 'At the Ballet', and 'One Day More', Sherlock was quietly deducting away and was gracious enough to share his observations with The Toast.
