The Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts of Miami-Dade County presents City Theatre's 17th annual SUMMER SHORTS FESTIVAL, South Florida's fast and furiously fun program of the nation's hottest short plays, staged in the intimate Carnival Studio Theater (Ziff Ballet Opera House) from June 1-17, 2012. Under the new direction of Producing Artistic Director John Manzelli, the sizzling 17th season of the company's acclaimed SUMMER SHORTS FESTIVAL features fifteen performances of ten original short plays - some raucous, others innovative and poignant, but with the ultimate goal to make audiences laugh.

The Emerging Artists Showcase is a unique partnership between a professional, regional theater and a secondary school theatre program. Its purpose is to present selected graduates from the AW Dreyfoos School of Arts Theatre Program to the South Florida theatre/film community. The showcase is directed by Kenneth Kay (a Carbonell award-winning director and former Producing Artistic Director of the Blowing Rock Stage Company, North Carolina) in collaboration with Beverly Blanchette (Dreyfoos Theatre Dean/Acting Director) and Bruce Linser (Dreyfoos Music Theatre Director). A Measure of Cruelty (April 19-May 13) is inspired by actual events of 2009 where a 15 year old boy was doused with rubbing alcohol and set on fire by four teenagers, a tragic event that impacted South Florida's local community and touched a nerve in our nation's conscience.

Carbonell nominated actress and acclaimed jazz artist Paulette Dozier will star as Billie Holiday in Lady Day at Emerson's Bar and Grill, playwright Lanie Robertson's portrait of the legendary jazz singer in performance four months before her death. The play, which will be produced by the Boca Raton Theatre Guild, will run for four performances only - April 27-29th at the Willow Theatre in Sugar Sand Park. Additional performances have been added for Saturday May 5 at 2 and 8pm and Sunday May 6 at 2 pm.

Marlon Brando starred in the Broadway production and the 4-time Academy Award-winning film adaptation. This will mark the 65th Anniversary of this enduring Tennessee Williams classic.

Join Outre Theatre Company as they present the third and final production of their pre-season series, a concert performance of Man of La Mancha - book by Dale Wasserman, lyrics by Joe Darion, and music by Mitch Leigh - for one performance only, May 14 at 7pm. Man of La Mancha will be performed at Don Taft University Center's Performance Hall, Nova Southeastern University.
