From his shabby room at the Lorraine Motel in Memphis, the Promised Land seems as far away as ever. He calls down for room service and a maid arrives with coffee – and an unexpected message. Is it a message from the past or the future?

Katori Hall’s inspired and inspiring play was a sell-out on West End and Broadway stages. It tracks not only one long night in American history but, in an astonishing finale, hurtles us through forty-five years of civil rights into the twenty-first century.

After making his directorial stage debut with MTC’s acclaimed production of Red, Alkinos Tsilimidos returns in 2013 to direct this Australian premiere.
