Emerging Australian-Taiwanese artist, Lansy Feng, is set to make her Melbourne Fringe debut this year with her cabaret, How I Met My Dead Husband.

Following its premiere season at The Butterfly Club this year, the cabaret will play at Gasworks Arts Park's ARB Gallery from September 20, as part of the Howard Fine Acting Studio's Fine@Fringe program.

Set at a funeral in 1950s Taipei, Taiwan, How I Met My Dead Husband explores reincarnation and the meaning of love.

Chuen-Jiau is giving a eulogy for her dead husband, Yueh. She is cursed and has kept this secret for a long time. When a hardheaded woman is chasing her love, even Buddha can't stop her. But how can you tell if it's true love?

How I Met My Dead Husband interweaves songs in Mandarin, English, and French, spanning jazz, pop and music theatre genres.

Writer and performer, Lansy Feng, graduated from the full-time program at the Howard Fine Acting Studio Australia in 2017, where she began writing the show.

"The story is based off the first few lines of a Taiwanese song from old-time Taiwan, which means 'longing for the spring breeze," Feng said.

"In the story, we look at this girl who has been obsessed chasing for love of this man for her whole life, and ignored all the love from family and friends. I wanted to talk about cherishing love and not taking it for granted. Taiwanese people talk a lot about after-life and reincarnation, and there are lots of folk tales about it. Based on these Taiwanese aspects, I decided to go with it, and write the show!"
