One man's giant leap into a jazz-filled lunar love affair!

Complete lunacy or a total eclipse of the heart?

Either way this beguiling, jazz-infused tale of a man falling in love with the moon is one hell of a story.

Following a rather unremarkable work BBQ, The Man and The Moon is a creation of three leading Perth theatre makers telling a story of self discovery that sees our hero fall for the gravitational and romantic pull of the big cheese in the sky. Waking up to realise life has lost its twinkle, St John Cowcher takes the audience on a lunar tide (that just happens to house a sultry New York jazz band) on a journey through all reasons why life has lost its twinkle.

This charming piece of theatre starring St John Cowcher (The Red Balloon, Laika, The Adventures of Alvin Sputnik) with music by Brett Smith (Elephents, Venus in Fur) promises poignancy, laughs and an ethereal score performed by a three-piece jazz band.

Cowcher has spent the past three years touring the globe as the lead in world-beating juggernaut The Adventures of Alvin Sputnik and international fringe favourite and Montreal Just For Laugh's award winning The Ballad of Frank Allen. Leading Perth sound-designer and musician Smith will also put his stamp on the production, leading the sultry, jazz bar-esque band that ties together the action throughout the play.

As part of the Butterfly Club's curated Summer program, this production promises to be nothing short of spectacular with a slew of award nominations, including the Martin Sims Award for Best New Show. Travelling all the way from Perth the show is produced by Variegated Productions, a company bringing together collaborators from different disciplines in the spirit of play and experimentation. If The Man and The Moon is anything to go by, the sky's the limit for this incredibly talented collective and Melbourne audiences have one week only to catch a glimpse at this incredible piece of theatre.
