Sydney Theatre Company presents Windmill's production of THE WIZARD OF OZ by L. Frank Baum. With Music and Lyrics by Harold Arlen and E.Y. Harburg

Background Music By Herbert Stothart, Adapted by John Kane for The Royal Shakespeare Company
Based upon the classic motion picture owned by Turner Entertainment Co and distributed in all media by Warner Bros.

23 October to 1 November 2009. Sydney Theatre, 22 Hickson Road, Walsh Bay

70 years on from the iconic MGM film, Sydney Theatre Company presents Windmill's multi-media retelling of the much loved tale of Dorothy's quest to find herself and her way back home. The Wizard of Oz is directed by Windmill's Artistic Director RoseMary Myers with a cast including Ursula Yovich as Dorothy and Geoff Revell as the Wicked Witch of the West, at Sydney Theatre from 23 October to 1 November 2009.

The production (based on the adaptation by John Kane for the Royal Shakespeare Company but re-imagined by Myers and the performers) presents a contemporary re-telling packing in all of the elements that modern 8+ audiences enjoy - adventure, fun, magic, darkness and scary bits.

Written by L Frank Baum, who first looked over the rainbow in 1900, The Wizard of Oz is regarded as a timeless classic for more than a century of readers, film and theatre goers. Books sales in the twentieth century alone exceeded 10 million in several editions. The 1939 film is considered to be the most popular film of all time.

Multiple Helpmann Award-winning Windmill is celebrated as Australia's leading theatre company creating engaging theatre for families. The Wizard of Oz premiered at the Adelaide Festival Centre earlier this year where it broke all previous Windmill box office records and received exceptional reviews.
