Queensland Theatre Company Presents GRIMM TALES, 11/8-12/11

By: Oct. 11, 2010

Queensland Theatre Company invites audiences to rediscover the classic Brothers Grimm's fairytales in Grimm Tales. A collection of the original fables are retold with the author's original endings - exactly how Snow White's evil step-mother was defeated, the dark ending to Rumplestiltskin and even Cinderella's real name!

Says Director Michael Futcher, "Grimm Tales is a magical re-telling of those fantastical fables we all remember from childhood. Carol Ann Duffy and Tim Supple's refreshing new adaptation is a celebration of storytelling, where young and old alike will be enchanted by this heady mix of the chaotic and the gripping, the frightening and the farcical, all brought vibrantly to life by an ensemble of medieval musicians and seven talented actors".

Audiences will recognise some of their favourite stories - there's Rumplestiltskin, Hansel and Gretel, The Golden Goose, Snow White, Little Red Cap (better known as Little Red Riding Hood), Ashputell (Cinderella for purists!) as well as the lesser-known but equally fun The Riddling Tale, The Hare and the Hedgehog and The Magic Table, The Gold Donkey and The Cudgel in the Sack.

Each show features live music from Phil Slade, Noah Cunningham and Sallie Campbell on modern and medieval instruments as well as performances by some of Brisbane's favourite performers - Liz Buchanan, Dan Crestani, Eugene Gilfedder, Emma Pursey, Lucas Stibbard, Scott Witt and Melanie Zanetti.  Grimm Tales is a fabulous escape into a delightful world where anything and everything is possible.
