Opera Australia's THE KING AND to Offer Closed Captioned Performances

Opera Australia Artistic Director Lyndon Terracini and leading Australian theatre producer John Frost have announced audio described and closed captioned performances of The King and I in both Melbourne and Sydney.

The first closed caption performance is at Melbourne's Princess Theatre on Friday evening 8 August. The Sydney Opera House will host an audio described matinee performance on Wednesday 24 September followed by a closed caption matinee performance on Tuesday 21 October.

These performances are designed to provide access to those with visual and audio impairments. Patrons will be able to access live captions on a mobile or tablet device via the GoTheatrical app downloaded from GooglePlay or The App Store.

Nominated for 10 Helpmann Awards, The King and I is touring nationally with the first lady of Australian musical theatre, Lisa McCune and internationally acclaimed actor Lou Diamond Phillips as the King of Siam for Melbourne season. Lisa McCune will be joined by acclaimed opera sensation Teddy Tahu Rhodes for the Sydney season.

For decades, The King and I captivated millions with its delightful story of Anna Leonowens, brought to the court of Siam as tutor to the King's children. This is a dazzling musical celebration, a sumptuous production with stunning scenery and magnificent costumes, definitely an event not to be missed.
