Melbourne Recital Centre Announces Christmas Programming

Each year Melbourne Recital Centre celebrates holiday fun and the silly season with wonderful performances for all ages to enjoy. From the enchanting traditional Christmas story for kids The Snowman to the original 'King of the Kids' storyteller Peter Combe and his Christmas album, and a hilarious cabaret with reindeers Prancer and Vixen, Melbourne Recital Centre brings you and your loved ones a much-needed burst of joy, nostalgia and festive holiday cheer.

If it's adults-only cabaret with a sparkle, then Prancer and Vixen will spice things up for you. And the whole family can enjoy songs by Peter Combe and Christmas favourite The Snowman.'

When we talk about the magic of Christmas, no story captures this feeling like Raymond Briggs's adored tale The Snowman. See the much-loved animation projected on the big screen with gorgeous music by Howard Blake played by a live orchestra, in two performances at the Centre on Saturday 8 December narrated by Christopher Lawrence. The enchanting story of James and the snowman he brings to life has captivated audiences for generations and will delight the whole family.

Multiple Helpmann and Green Room award-winners Jacqui Dark and Kanen Breen are the fabulous Strange Bedfellows, who rattle our rooftops as two mischievous reindeer in Prancer & Vixen Ride Again. With piano playing elf Daryl Wallis, the trio takes to the skies in a hilarious quest to comprehend Christmas, bringing you madcap perspectives on the silly season that promise delightful fits of laughter. Strange Bedfellows crash-lands on Saturday 8 December.

And to pump up the Christmas spirit even more on Wednesday 12 December, Peter Combe, best known for songs like 'Wash Your Face in Orange Juice (Mr. Clicketty Cane)', 'Newspaper Mama' and 'Toffee Apple', performs songs from his eponymous Christmas album. Released in 1990, the ever-popular record went Gold in just five weeks. Its catchy and imaginative tunes defy the notion that music for kids is boring, entertaining listeners of all ages - whether you have grown up enjoying the album at every Christmas or are hearing it for the first time. In Peter's own words, 'This album is the realisation of a dream of mine to compose and record a set of new Christmas songs for kids and families.'
