MajKidz Registrations for 2012 Now Open

By: Nov. 30, 2011

His Majesty's Theatre is now accepting registrations for its popular, exciting and interactive youth theatre workshop programme MajKidz.

Presented by His Majesty's Theatre in association with Barking Gecko Theatre Company, MajKidz hones the skills of one hundred 10-12 year olds every year, igniting their imagination and creativity in the process.

Based at His Majesty's Theatre, the workshops teach children how to produce a live theatre piece, boosting participants' self-esteem and delivering plenty of fun along the way. MajKidz is not an acting school, so it is perfect for any child with a keen interest in live theatre!

Throughout the year children are immersed in the magic of theatre and granted 'behind-the-scenes' access to His Majesty's Theatre. The programme takes them through the diverse world of the theatre including areas like costumes, wigs, props, makeup, masks, stage combat, mime, movement, puppetry, music, improvisation, dance, choreography, lighting and sound. The programme culminates in a live MajKidz performance on stage at His Majesty's Theatre.

The MajKidz tutors are experienced theatre artists with exceptional skills engaging children and are provided by Barking Gecko Theatre Company. Barking Gecko Theatre Company has been igniting the imaginations' of Western Australian audiences for nearly 20 years and is committed to promoting the value of young people's involvement in the arts.

MajKidz regularly features guest workshop directors from visiting national and international companies as well as the West Australian Opera and West Australian Ballet. Past highlights included a singing workshop with cast members from Wicked, including leading lady Lucy Durack, a puppet making workshop with Spare Parts Puppet Theatre and a workshop with stage combat and fight director extraordinaire Andy Fraser.

MajKidz has been successfully running since 2000 and books out quickly. Children come from a range of schools and have varying levels of theatrical experience:

"MajKidz is a great opportunity for children to gain experience in a professional environment."

"Great fun, my son wants to do it again."

"The standard of her tutors was fantastic, my daughter enjoyed all the interesting and stimulating activities they were involved in."

"My daughter loved Majkidz, and found it fun, entertaining and useful for her Drama interests."

MajKidz commences in March, 2012 with 10 workshops held between March and December from 9.30am to 12.30pm. Children need to enrol for the full year and there are only 100 places. The cost for the year long programme is $280 per student (includes GST).
