ICEHOUSE's Great Southern Land Takes Off; New Show Added for Next Month Image

If 2017 wasn't already a huge milestone for ICEHOUSE and Iva Davies with the 40th anniversary of live performances and 30 years since the release of their groundbreaking Man of Colours album, today Qantas officially unveiled the first Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner plane in Australia which is named after the band's hit song, Great Southern Land.

Earlier this year Qantas reached out to the general public for suggestions on what to name each of their 8 new Dreamliner aircraft with Great Southern Land being chosen for the first aircraft out of 45,000 names received.

Iva Davies said, "I'd like to thank the people of Australia and Qantas for honouring me by naming one of their planes after the song I wrote back in 1981. At the time I was attempting to write a new song about the country we love and wanted a new name and new way of describing it. I was aware that early European explorers described it as the "Great South Land" but I wanted something new, something more streamlined and singable. So I created the phrase "Great Southern Land" which became the signature of the song.

"It still amazes me the way people have embraced this song, and that after all this time it continues to have resonance with not only the generation who first heard it in 1982 but that it seems to be travelling down to younger generations of listeners."

With 25 shows already under their collective belts this year, ICEHOUSE have still to complete sold out shows at the Palais Theatre and The Palms at Crown in Melbourne in November and December. The band is also headlining Lakeside Twilights in Ballarat on 18 November as well as two shows at the Enmore Theatre in Sydney. Limited tickets are still available for these shows.
