ICEHOUSE's Great Southern Land Takes Off; New Show Added for Next Month
By: BWW News Desk Oct. 19, 2017

If 2017 wasn't already a huge milestone for ICEHOUSE and Iva Davies with the 40th anniversary of live performances and 30 years since the release of their groundbreaking Man of Colours album, today Qantas officially unveiled the first Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner plane in Australia which is named after the band's hit song, Great Southern Land.
Earlier this year Qantas reached out to the general public for suggestions on what to name each of their 8 new Dreamliner aircraft with Great Southern Land being chosen for the first aircraft out of 45,000 names received. Iva Davies said, "I'd like to thank the people of Australia and Qantas for honouring me by naming one of their planes after the song I wrote back in 1981. At the time I was attempting to write a new song about the country we love and wanted a new name and new way of describing it. I was aware that early European explorers described it as the "Great South Land" but I wanted something new, something more streamlined and singable. So I created the phrase "Great Southern Land" which became the signature of the song.NEW SHOW Friday, 10 November 2017
