Beginning March 18, Barefoot Theatre Company will be presenting the Australian premier of Lebensraum.  Written by Israel Horovitz, the production will run through March 31 DownStairs at the Maj, His Majesty's Theatre, 825 Hay St.  For tickets, visit www.hismajestystheatre.com.au. With direction by Lawrie Cullen-Tait, the cast features Vivienne Garrett, Brendan Hanson and Craig Williams.

Lebensraum is based on the fanciful and explosive premise that a German Chancellor might, as an act of redemption, invite 6 million Jews to relocate to Germany with promises of citizenship and employment? This dramatic but daringly dark comic piece of theatre takes you from Boston to Bremerhaven, from Israel to Australia to Berlin. It explores the possibility of making restitution for the Holocaust. Would it or would it not be wise to do so? And will history repeat itself?

Theatrical and inventive in its storytelling, with three actors playing over 40 penetrating characters, Lebensraum is a story of love, economics, revenge, and forgiveness guaranteed to get you talking.

Written by one of America's most celebrated contemporary and produced playwrights, Israel Horovitz, this production is part of the 70/70 Horovitz Project - a year-long world Festival celebrating Horovitz's 70th birthday with 70 of his plays.

In 1999, Barefoot Theatre Company was founded by a group of multicultural artists in order to produce stimulating and thought provoking theatre for the public. Since then, we have stood by the principles of ensemble collaboration and artistic risks to develop and foster plays, new and existing, with a broad range of social relevance, striving to keep the vitality of American Theatre alive and vibrant. By creating a visceral, more provocative manner of storytelling through our ensemble commitment, we provide emerging artists with the opportunity to explore and take artistic risks while engaging audiences of all ages.
