BOMB COLLAR Premieres at Melbourne Fringe This September

By:

A one-man sci-fi cabaret about loss, myth-making and the fatal cage that is the live pop gig.

The Future. Human society has devolved into a constant cycle of revolt and revival. Music is long gone, except for one genetic throwback and his ancient, creaky instrument, on which the Last Songs Known To Man are stored.

"Bomb Collar", written and performed by Nick Delatovic plays as part of the Melbourne Fringe Festival in the Parlour Room, Fringe Hub at Arts House from 16 - 23 September.

Bomb Collar is a pitch-black cabaret comedy that uses the conceit of the 'live gig' to ask hard questions about the relationship between audience and performer. Examining the bleak existence that a pop singer would face in a world where artistic expression is scarce and endangered, Bomb Collar looks unflinchingly at the role art takes in the most desperate of life and death circumstances.

Militantly minimalist and portable, Bomb Collar has toured internationally to a 100-year-old puppet theatre as part of Karnabal Festival (Manila, 2015) and a dilapidated bowls club at New Zealand Fringe (Wellington, 2016). The show's design is steeped in DIY tech culture. Digital ballads from a broKen Down future are belted out from The Last Instrument (a custom built and coded Raspberry Pi computer and speaker system worn by Delatovic).

Delatovic says, "the show is aggressively lo-fi, the eight original songs I've written for the show are conceived as the logical conclusion of today's popular chart music, put through the warped lens of ecological collapse."

Tonight, deep beneath the ocean and fresh from his tour of the Scorched Continent, The Last Singer gives a concert to this season's hot new army. Attend at your own risk, as the explosive charge around his neck is live.

"absorbing...written and performed with extraordinary intensity... a profoundly unsettling and disturbing experience" - City News

Production design by Adam Thomas and Paul Heslin. Music produced by Sam King and Paul Heslin. Produced by Adelaide Rief. Presented by Lick Nuke Productions.
