THE LITTLE MERMAID, JR. Comes to HCCT This Summer
This summer, the Hill Country Community Theatre's Youth Summer Theatre Program will produce the musical, "Disney's The Little Mermaid Jr.," lyrics by Howard Ashman and Glenn Slater, book by Doug Wright, music by David Weinstein.
"HCCT's Youth Summer Theatre program has produced the high-quality 'Alice in Wonderland Jr.,' 'Annie Jr.,' and 'Seussical Jr.,'" said Mike Rademaekers, the theatre's executive director. "We create an enjoyable atmosphere, with high standards, where the students learn the fundamentals of acting. Kids accepted into the program will be cast in a role and perform on our stage for live audiences."
"Disney's The Little Mermaid Jr." takes place in a magical underwater kingdom, the beautiful young mermaid, Ariel, longs to leave her ocean home - and her fins - behind and live in the world above. But first, she'll have to defy her father, King Triton, make a deal with the evil sea witch, Ursula, and convince the handsome Prince Eric that she's the girl whose enchanting voice he's been seeking.
Based on one of Hans Christian Andersen's most beloved stories, "Disney's The Little Mermaid Jr." is an enchanting look at the sacrifices we all make for love and acceptance. "There are plenty of roles for guys and girls," said Rademaekers. "It is going to be an excellent experience for them!" Christine Ashbaugh and Jordan Jones will head the program.
HCCT is now taking applications for admission. The program runs from June 8 through June 21, Monday through Friday, from 10:00 AM to 4:30 PM. If accepted, the price of the program is $310 per student, ages 8 to 17.
There will be four public performances of "Seussical Jr." - Thursday, June 18, and Friday, June 19 at 6:00 PM, and Saturday, June 20, and Sunday, June 21 at 2:15 PM on the Hill Country Community Theatre stage.
