Glass Half Full Theatre and Trouble Puppet Theater to Present THE AUSTIN PUPPET INCIDENT, 6/28-29

By:

Glass Half Full Theatre and Trouble Puppet Theater Company present The Austin Puppet Incident (the fourth!): an evening of short puppet works from a variety of local and national puppet artists, June 28 & 29, 8 pm & 10 pm. For more information, visit austinpuppetincident.com. It all takes place at the Salvage Vanguard Theater, 2803 Manor Rd, Austin, TX. Tickets: $12 general admission, $10 student/senior/group at http://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/398701.

Two nights only! Curated by Caroline Reck of Glass Half Full Theatre (recently named "Visionary Vivifier" at the Austin Critics Table Awards) and Connor Hopkins, the award-winning artistic director of Trouble Puppet Theater.

The fourth Austin Puppet Incident is a joint creation of Glass Half Full Theatre and Trouble Puppet Theater Company to present the work of local and national puppet artists on the Austin stage. Our upcoming puppet slam includes a puppet flea circus, a lyrical shadow box piece, a Punch & Judy show, a comical Hamlet-esque 15th-century mendicant puppetry fit-up, Taiwanese hand puppets, and more!

Our visiting puppeteer is Julia M. Smith, of New York City, with an excerpt from her show 21 Things I Never Told Chicago. Inspired by historical photographs of Chicago, this original performance invites you to wander through the city's myths and memories, peeping and peering into worlds on a scale from the Sear's Tower to a stick of Wrigley's gum.

Patrons are strongly encouraged to buy in advance; based on ticketing of previous shows, we do expect to completely sell out all performances.

Glass Half Full Theatre creates puppetry and physical theatre of objects and ideas, devising visually- driven narratives inspired by issues that concern humans across the globe. Our goal is to share stories that are generous, not only in their core content and narratives, but in their deeper invitations: to imagine, to participate, to question, and to strive for meaning. The company was formed in France in 2004 by graduates from the Ecole Jacques Lecoq, and was based in Paris and Baltimore before settling in Austin in 2010. Austin productions include FupDuck, The Orchid Flotilla, and Once There Were Six Seasons. Glass Half Full Theatre has received B. Iden Payne awards for Outstanding Direction and Original Script, is a sponsored project of the Austin Creative Alliance, and is funded in part by the City of Austin & the Jim Henson Foundation. www.glasshalffulltheatre.com

Trouble Puppet Theater Company, recipient of such B. Iden Payne Awards as Outstanding Director of a Drama, Best Production of a Drama, Outstanding Original Script, and Outstanding Puppetry, is dedicated to the creation of exceptional works of puppet theater for grownups. Trouble Puppet was created in 2004 by Artistic Director Connor Hopkins and has in recent years been making trouble in shows such as Frankenstein: The Trouble Puppet Show, The Jungle, Riddley Walker, Toil and Trouble, and The Cruel Circus. Trouble Puppet is a sponsored project of Salvage Vanguard Theater and is supported in part by the city of Austin, the Jim Henson Foundation, and individual donors. www.troublepuppet.com
