Gabriel Royal Comes To The Grand
The Grand 1894 Opera House continues "A Jewel of a Season" on Saturday, November 10 at 8pm, with Gabriel Royal: The Underground Cello Project. The concert was written by the highly-acclaimed, modern chamber pop music composer- performer, Gabriel Royal. Tickets may be purchased at The Grand's Box Office, 2020 Postoffice Street, by calling 409.765.1894, 800.821.1894, or online at www.thegrand.com.
Royal's journey from art teacher to modern chamber pop composer-performer actually began as a fun diversion with friends. His sensual singing voice and sonorous cello accompaniment was developed while he played and sang in the New York subways. His musical influences include Stevie Wonder's groove, Burt Bacharach's relaxed, jazzy -yet poppy sensitivities, and the multi-talents of alternative contemporary artists such as John Legend, Hiatus Coyote, Flying Lotus, James Blake, Jangle Monae and Thundercat. This performance is supported in part by an award from the National Endowment for the Arts and Texas Commission on the Arts.
Single tickets are now on sale. Contact The Grand's box office at 409.765.1894, 800.821.1894, or visit The Grand at www.thegrand.com. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, The Grand 1894 Opera House, located at 2020 Postoffice Street in Galveston's historic downtown Cultural Arts District, is recognized as "The Official Opera House of the State of Texas." All major credit cards accepted.
