Breaking String Theater to Present THREE, OR THE SOUND OF GREAT EXISTENTIAL NOTHINGNESS, 7/26-8/17

By:

Breaking String Theater Co. will present Three, or the Sound of the Great Existential Nothingness, by Timothy Braun, directed by Graham Schmidt.

In Timothy Braun's fantastical re-interpretation, five characters from Chekhov's 1901 masterpiece live highly circumscribed lives in a small town somewhere in present-day America. Breaking String presented an early draft at hyde Park Theatre in December of 2012, and recruited an elite creative team comprising veterans of Austin's new works community, for a development process. The result is a highly playful and theatrical piece in which Mr. Braun explores themes central to Chekhov's work: loneliness, the yearning for a better life, and the struggle to connect.

The show will run July 26 - August 17 at the The Off Center (2211A Hidalgo Street, Austin, TX 78702). Tickets: $15 - 25, sliding scale, available at breakingstring.com/tickets or 512-784-1465.

TIMOTHY BRAUN is an American writer whose plays have been presented at dozens of theaters throughout the United States, including La Mama, the Ensemble Studio Theater, Salvage Vanguard Theater and California Institute of the Arts. Mr. Braun's essays and other writings have been published in The New York Times, Huffingtonpost, Daily Kos, The Austin Chronicle and Culturebot, among other publications. Mr. Braun received an MFA in playwriting from Columbia University in New York City, and currently teaches at St. Edward's University. He is the Editor-in-Chief of New and Social Media for Fusebox Festival.
