THE WAKE - A New Play With Old Irish Songs is written by Vynnie Meli (PLAGUED - A LOVE STORY and A CAPPELLA, both at the New York Musical Festival) with additional music by Scott DePoy (Ghastly Dreadfuls; Center for Puppetry Arts, Sanders Family Christmas; Theatre in the Square), with lyrics by Meli. The play with music (old and new) draws on a personal reflection of a universal experience. If there’s ever a silver lining, it’ll be found in Irish music. Old customs die hard at a traditional Irish wake. A young funeral director tries to bring a new approach, but Finn’s old cronies will have none of it. They’re going to stay until the sun comes up - or somebody’s going down. By the end of a long night of music and mayhem, they all agree on one thing. No one leaves without leaving something behind. This brilliant cast of actor/musicians play all the instruments. These are going to be some lively evenings at the Atlanta Shakespeare Tavern - on the stage and in the audience. "Irish songs have some of the most heartbreakingly beautiful melodies in Western music. And also some of the most joyous. It is music that comes from the heart, and goes to the heart." - Scott DePoy, composer Like the song says, 'It’ll make your trotters shake!’" - Vynnie Meli, playwright Performances are Sundays August 13th, 20th and 27th ; 7:30pm at the Shakespeare Tavern Playhouse 499 Peachtree Street, NE Atlanta, GA 30308 Box office 404- 874-5299 shakespearetavern.com $30 General admission and $25 for students, educators, military.
