Warsaw Philharmonic Returns to Emory’s Schwartz Center, 11/2

By:

The Warsaw Philharmonic, known as the national orchestra of Poland, performs Nov. 2 at Emory's Schwartz Center for Performing Arts. The orchestra will perform works by composers Witold Lutoslawski, Frédéric Chopin, and Antonín Dvo?ák. The concert is the first in Atlanta since their 2008 sold-out show at the Schwartz Center.

For over 100 years, the Warsaw Philharmonic has been one of Poland's most distinguished musical institutions. Artistic director Antoni Wit conducts, with Yulianna Avdeeva joining the orchestra on the 2012-2013 tour. Avdeeva is the 2010 first prize winner of the 16th International Frédéric Chopin Competition, and the first woman to win the competition in 45 years. She was also awarded the Krystian Zimerman Prize for the best performance of a sonata. Download reviews and bios of Wit and Avdeeva: http://www.cami.com/?webid=538

The Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra enjoys worldwide popularity and recognition. The orchestra has made over 120 tours on five continents and has performed in all of the major concert halls, winning applause from audiences and critics for their charismatic music making.

The Nov. 2 concert is part of the 2012-2013 Flora Glenn Candler Concert Series, hosting world-renowned solo artists, chamber groups, and orchestras in the Schwartz Center's Emerson Concert Hall. Event and ticket details at http://www.arts.emory.edu/warsaw
