Out of Box Theatre's ASSASSINS Opens this Weekend

The political circus melds with the literal circus in Stephen Sondheim's musical Assassins, opening this weekend at Out of Box Theatre. MiChelle Davis directs a cast of Out of Box newcomers and veterans, in a gritty big-top vision realized by an all-female production team. Presented in the round, this is Assassins like you've never seen it before! Assassins opens March 31 at 8:00 PM and runs through April 15. The complete transformation of the blackbox theatre places the audience under the big top tent alongside infamous American assassins from John Wilkes Booth (Stephen DeVillers) to Squeaky Fromme of the Manson family (Julianne Whitehead). This spectacular "revusical" explores the dark side of the American experience through the lens of a murderous carnival game, where the rules of time and space bend to allow the assassins to meet, interact, and inspire one another to harrowing acts in the name of the American Dream.

Ali Olhausen's costumes blend the assassins' historically appropriate costumes with well-loved circus and carnival archetypes, including the snake charmer, the fortuneteller, and the daredevil. Jack Allison, who performed as Ash in last year's Evil Dead the Musical at Out of Box, appears as John Hinckley Jr., wearing a vintage 80s Members Only jacket, as well as the striped shirt of the classic Strongman carnival attraction.
