Ella Fitzgerald Charitable Foundation Funds Camp Broadway Scholarships in Atlanta

The 3rd Annual Ella Fitzgerald Charitable Foundation Scholarship application is now available for parents of children ages 10-17 who want to attend Camp Broadway's annual summer program in Atlanta that will be held at the Rialto Theater, Monday, June 6, to Friday, June 10, for one week only.

To fulfill the First Lady of Song's desire to foster the love of art and music in deserving children, four scholarships will be awarded by the Foundation through a generous grant to the Broadway Education Alliance, a New York based 501.c3.

"We started working with the terrific folks at Camp Broadway LLC a few years back and we just love them," says Fran Morris-Rosman, Executive Director of the Ella Fitzgerald Foundation. "Ella sang hundreds of songs from so many Broadway shows and we're thrilled to carry on her musical and charitable legacy by funding 'camperships' to Camp Broadway."

The Ella Fitzgerald Charitable Foundation will fund two full camperships (valued at $595) and two partial camperships (valued at $297.50). Camp Broadway will return to Atlanta for its 16th annual summer program led by Director/Choreographer, Michelle Robinson (Chicago, Dreamgirls) and a team of experienced Broadway professionals in the presentation of the 5-day musical theater program at the Rialto Center for the Arts, located on the campus of Georgia State University. Young performers will enjoy 40 hours of classes in singing, dancing and acting in preparation for the annual Family Finale. The children will also receive the official t-shirts, rehearsal materials, healthy lunches, snacks and more.

The Ella Fitzgerald Charitable Foundation was created and funded in 1993 by Ella Fitzgerald, the First Lady of Song, to fulfill her desires to use the fruits of her success to help people of all races, cultures and beliefs. Ella hoped to make their lives more rewarding by fostering a love of reading and music, as well as to enable disadvantaged members of our communities to achieve a better quality of life. Since its launch in 1995, Camp Broadway LLC has provided scholarships to hundreds of children who could not otherwise afford to attend its summer programs. Working with the Broadway Education Alliance, Camp Broadway established Marya's Gift, a scholarship fund named in memory of an extraordinary arts patron, Marya Lenn Yee. Marya believed that children will learn to be better performers in everything they do in life when given the opportunity to develop their creative talents through art, music and theater.
