Dominion Entertainment To Bring 'Hattitude' This Summer With Production Of CROWNS Image

Dominion Entertainment Group has announced "Crowns" as its next production to hit the stage. From May 30 - June 10, the gospel musical by Golden Globe winning playwright Regina Taylor, will run at the Fulton County Southwest Arts Center Performance Theater & Gallery.

Adapted from the book, "Crowns: Portraits of Black Women in Church Hats" by journalist Craig Marberry and photographer Michael Cunningham, this musical is a celebration of the stand-up-and-be-counted African-American tradition that has evolved out of a legacy of pain, pride and survival. Centered on a young girl as the main character, Yolanda, the plot follows her journey down south from Brooklyn after the death of her brother. There, she finds strength in the stories of the town's women and the rituals connected to their hats that they call crowns.

The production will be directed by Thomas W. Jones II, who has directed, written, and performed in more than 150 plays around the world. Jones will be providing creative direction to the talented actresses who will portray the town's women, including Terry Burrell. Burrell, an internationally acclaimed actress and singer with more than two decades in the industry, will play the audacious preacher's wife, Mabel.

"We are glad to have Terry Burrell back after her first appearance with us in 'Black Nativity,'" said Robert John Connor, CEO and artistic director of Dominion Entertainment. "She along with our cast and creative team are going to warm audiences' souls with this production."

Alongside Burrell will be Tyler Prynce as Yolanda, the main character; Sandra Jones as Mother Shaw, the seasoned and wise matron; Jennifer Myles as Velma, the town mortician; Brittany Inge as Jeannette, the notorious flirt; and Andrea Connor as Wanda, the wholesome teacher. The gifted Eric Moore will take on the various male characters that appear throughout the production.

There are ticket options for children, students, seniors, and groups, with individual adult tickets starting at $40. Tickets may be purchased at: www.brownpapertickets.com/event/3186154.
