By: Tyler Peterson Oct. 02, 2013
Beneath My Fathers' Sky, written and performed by Zara Phillips and directed by Eliza and Eric Roberts will debut to a sold-out crowd, November 12th at United Solo Festival. Once again, Phillips examines the emotions and complexities inherent in adopted family dynamics. In Beneath My Fathers' Sky, after Zara's adoptive mother dies and she's left to care for distant adoptive father, she takes a dream-like journey and comes face-to-face with the biological father she's never known and the sister who never existed. The play takes place at the Studio Theatre, 410 W. 42 Street, New York City at 7:30 pm and is based on Zara's true life story.
Zara Phillips wears several hats. She has been a known figure in the adoption world for several years for her writing, collaborations and award-winning documentary Roots Unknown and for speaking at several conferences and events that deal with the issues of adoption. She is author of Mother Me, a personal testament of her own experience with adoption and an examination of the complexities of the issues that surround the subject, published in the UK and US, a singer songwriter who collaborated with such musicians as Run DMC (Darryl 'DMC' McDaniels) for the single, "I'm Legit". Now she has added 'playwright' to her list of roles in the artistic world, and with Eric and Eliza Roberts supporting her work as directors of her one-woman show, she expands into her writing and performing talents.Videos
