Before Elvis and Priscilla, Sonny and Cher, Madonna and Whoever, there was F. Scott and Zelda Fitzgerald — prototypes for beauty and talent, spin and narcissism. Their reckless world of speakeasies and smuggled champagne bursts onto the Lenape Regional Performing Arts Center stage in July in a Broadway-worthy show called Waiting for the Moon: An American Love Story.
Leading the 19-member cast are Tony Award-winner Jarrod Emick (Broadway's Damn Yankees revival, The Boy From Oz and The Rocky Horror Show) and Lauren Kennedy (South Pacific in London, Broadway's Side Show and Sunset Blvd.) as F. Scott and Zelda Fitzgerald in this high-energy show of music and dance.
Frank Wildhorn, Tony-nominated composer of Jekyll and Hyde and Civil War, has written an original, romantic, raucous score reminiscent of the great classic American musicals. Jack Murphy's book and lyrics lead the audience through the emotional, fast-paced journey of the Fitzgeralds, who lived their life in the future tense even when the future was sabotaged by the past.
Waiting for the Moon provides an enthralling view of 1920s America through the eyes of two of the 20th Century's most celebrated figures. The lines between fact and fantasy begin to blur as they show us what it's like -- or at least what we think it's like -- to truly fall in love, to defiantly live too much and to decidedly fall too fast. Waiting for the Moon has enough dancing to make you swing, enough singing to make you cry, and enough heart to make your whole world come alive.
Chosen to shape Waiting for the Moon are choreographer Andy Blankenbuehler (Fosse), orchestrator Kim Scharnberg (Little Women) scenic designer Rob Odorisio, lighting designer Howell Binkley and costume designer Janine McCabe. Ron Melrose is musical director. Projections are by Michael Clark. Producers are Roy Miller and Lenape Regional PAC's own Vincent Marini.
The cast includes Ben Dibble as Ben Cameron (The Reporter), Sean Palmer (as Edouard), Leslie Alexander (as Mrs. Sayer) and Courtney Laine Mazza, Mike McGowan, Jordan Cable, Terri Dixon, Alison Cimmet, Tim Federle, Keith Kuhl, Rachel Bress, Kristin Piro, Brandi Wooten, Nova Bergeron and Scott Greer.
Previews for Waiting for the Moon are July 16 through 19, with a celebrated opening night July 20. Waiting for the Moon runs through July 31. Tickets are $45 and $50.
