WAKE UP with BWW 7/18/14 - Elaine Stritch, Fire Island, Zach Braff, DROP DEAD PERFECT and More!

Good morning, BroadwayWorld! Because we know all our readers eat, sleep and breathe Broadway, what could be better than waking up to it? This weekend's big news: Acclaimed choreographers Jerry Mitchell and Larry Keigwin co-host the 2014 Fire Island Dance Festival, Zach Braff's WISH I WAS HERE hits the big screen, a starry production of CATS opens in Pittsburgh, iLUMINATE marks one year, and DROP DEAD PERFECT opens off-Broadway this Sunday!

Before we do anything else, let's take a minute to reflect on Elaine Stritch's passing yesterday. For an in-depth look at her life and some of her greatest moments onstage, read Pat Cerasaro's FLASH FRIDAY piece on the theatre legend. Broadway will dim its lights tonight in honor of the incredible actress...

Broadway Weather Forecast: It's a mix this weekend with a high of 83 degrees, a little bit of sun to start off, and a little bit of rain on Sunday morning.

Quote of the Day: The incomparable Elaine Stritch muses on technique...

These performers that go on about their technique and craft - oh, puleeze! How boring! I don't know what 'technique' means. But I do know what experience is.
-- Elaine Stritch (via BrainyQuote)

What we're re-watching: ELAINE STRITCH: SHOOT ME. The documentary follows Stritch in her one-woman cabaret act, on the set of 30 ROCK with Alec Baldwin, addresses her struggles with aging, alcohol and diabetes, showcases archival footage from past performances, features interviews with friends and colleagues, including Hal Prince, George C. Wolfe, Nathan Lane, Cherry Jones and John Turturro, and more. It's a fabulous tribute to the beloved artist. Check out the trailer below!

And finally, a Happy Birthday shout-out to Kristen Bell, who turns 35 today!

Bell made her Broadway debut in The Adventures of Tom Sawyer in 2001 and starred in The Crucible the following year. She is the voice of 'Anna' in Disney's animated, mega-hit musical Frozen and is well known for playing the title role in the cult TV series Veronica Mars.

See you bright and early on Monday, BroadwayWorld!
