Video: ELEKTRA at San Francisco Opera
Elena Pankratova makes her company debut in the title role, with Eun Sun Kim on the podium.
San Francisco Opera has unveiled a trailer for its current production of ELEKTRA, Richard Strauss's one-act opera, which is running at the War Memorial Opera House through June 27 as part of the company's 2025–26 season.
ELEKTRA, with a libretto by Hugo von Hofmannsthal, draws on the ancient Greek myth of the House of Atreus, following Elektra's consuming drive for revenge against her mother Klytämnestra for the murder of her father Agamemnon. Strauss's score is among the most demanding in the operatic repertoire, requiring one of the largest pit orchestras of any opera ever written and placing extraordinary vocal and physical pressure on its lead performers.
The production sets the mythic story within a contemporary museum environment, framing the drama as an act of memory and obsession. Music Director Eun Sun Kim conducts the San Francisco Opera Orchestra, and soprano Elena Pankratova makes her company debut in the title role.
BroadwayWorld previously covered the production's announcement and casting in detail. Performances continue through June 27 at the War Memorial Opera House in San Francisco.
