VIDEO: Samuel L. Jackson Reflects on His Career and Early Days in the Theatre on 60 MINUTES

Samuel L. Jackson is a household name, known for his iconic roles on screen. He recently appeared in a feature on 60 Minutes, where he talked about his long career, including how getting his start in the theatre shaped him as an actor.

Jackson met his wife, LaTanya Richardson Jackson, who is now starring in To Kill a Mockingbird on Broadway, while he was in college.

"Oh God, oh God. It's a ride. It's been a ride," said LaTanya on being married to Jackson. "It's fun. It's sad. It's happy. It's creative. It's a conversation."

The pair spent 15 years in the New York stage acting scene, among other black actors who were then struggling, including Denzel Washington, Morgan Freeman, Laurence Fisburne, and Wesley Snipes.

Jackson said that his theatre roots shaped him as an actor, and taught him to focus on what the audience wants to see.

"That's what I was taught when I was doing theater," he said. "That, when you come on stage, you want to light it up to the point that, when you leave, people want to go with you. And I hope that's who I am when I show up."
