On last night's THE VOICE, contestant Gabriel Violett, who starred as Otto in the original production of Broadway's SPRING AWAKENING, wowed judges Alicia Keys and Blake Shelton with his cover of Shawn Mendes' 'Treat You Better.'

"I want to sing R&B and pop but with my own little twist and figure out what that twist is," he explained to the judges. In the end, Violett opted to join Team Alicia. Watch the performance below!

Originally from Fenton, MO, the New York City singer was a cast member in the Tony Award-winning Broadway musical Spring Awakening. Once the show closed, Gabriel dropped out of college and moved to New York, where he joined a six-person tenor group called The Broadway Boys. After a while Gabriel decided that Broadway was no longer for him, and he says he hopes THE VOICE can jumpstart the next chapter in his career.
