Students of Amas Musical Theatre's Rosetta LeNoire Musical Theatre Academy will perform at the National Arts Club (15 Gramercy Park South), on Wednesday, March 29th at 6 PM. The evening, which will also include a reading by Leslie Uggams, will support the Katrina Kids Project "Hope…One Crayon at a Time," which uses the performing arts to help children overcome problems through creative expression.

"Amas Musical Theatre is a non-profit, multi-ethnic theatrical organization located in New York City, founded in 1968 by Ms. Rosetta LeNoire, a recipient of the 1999 National Medal of Arts. Rosetta's vision for Amas is grounded in non-traditional, multi-racial production, education and casting. Amas is devoted to the creation, development and professional production of original musical works and to the training and encouragement of new musical theatre talent. Recent Amas productions include Lone Star Love, Stormy Weather, The Story of Lena Horne, Zanna, Don't! and Langston Hughes' Little Ham," according to press notes.

Uggams received a Tony Award for her performance in Hallelujah, Baby! and was also nominated for her turn in King Hedley II; On Golden Pond, Anything Goes, Blues in the Night and Her First Roman are among other credits. She received an Emmy Award nomination for her performance in "Roots," and other film and TV credits include "The Cosby Show," "The Love Boat," and Sugar Hill.
