The York Theatre Company, acclaimed for their development of new musicals, will present Asylum: The Strange Case of Mary Lincoln as the last offering of their 2006-2007 season.  It will run from September 5th through October 1st.

The new musical about the troubled wife of America's 16th president features a score by Carmel Owen and a book by June Bingham.  "Ten years after the assassination of her husband and the death of three of her sons, Mary Todd Lincoln battles for her freedom as she is judged insane and committed to an asylum by her only living son and some of Lincoln's former political allies. Witness her struggle to survive, as she fights to keep alive the eternal love that she and Lincoln shared," state press notes.

A 2001 Women's Project workshop starred Barbara Walsh as Mary Todd Lincoln.  No casting has been announced for the York Theatre production.

The York Theatre is located at Saint Peter's Theatre in Citigroup Center at 619 Lexington Avenue.  Visit www.smarttix.com or www.yorktheatre.org for tickets and more information.
