The Voice Foundation Honors Chita Rivera and Paulo Szot Today
The black-tie event will include awards to international singers from different disciplines:
The Raymond and Beverly Sackler Award will be presented to Kennedy Awards Honoree and Broadway Legend CHITA RIVERA. She has been nominated for a record 10 Tony Awards and won two. The Raymond and Beverly Sackler Award is given in recognition of excellence in use of the voice.
The Raymond and Beverly Sackler Award will be presented to Brazilian baritone PAULO SZOT to recognize personal excellence in use of the human voice. He won the Tony Award for Best Actor in a Musical for his portrayal of Emile De Beque in the Broadway revival of South Pacific at Lincoln Center Theatre - and then debuted at the Metropolitan Opera in the premiere of The Nose. The Raymond and Beverly Sackler Award is given in recognition of excellence in use of the voice.
CATHERINE MALFITANO's Emmy-award winning portrayal of Tosca, broadcast live from the actual Roman settings of the opera, was seen by more than one billion viewers worldwide. The VERA (Voice Education Research Awareness) Award is given in recognition of outstanding contributions to the field of voice.
DREXEL UNIVERSITY and President JOHN FRY will receive a VERA Award for support and encouragement of interdisciplinary collaboration and advancement of disciplines that cross traditional academic boundaries, including voice.
