It is now confirmed that THE COLOR PURPLE will arrive on Broadway this fall, beginning previews at The Broadway Theatre, 1681 Broadway (btwn W. 52nd & 53rd Streets), on Tuesday, October 25, 2005. THE COLOR PURPLE is set to open on Thursday, December 1, 2005 and is produced by Scott Sanders, Creative Battery, Roy Furman, Quincy Jones.

From Alice Walker's classic Pulitzer Prize-winning novel and the landmark film by Steven Spielberg, comes a soul-stirring new musical. THE COLOR PURPLE is an inspiring family saga that tells the unforgettable story of a woman, who, through love, finds the strength to triumph over adversity and discover her unique voice in the world. With a moving book and a score featuring gospel, jazz, ragtime and the blues, THE COLOR PURPLE is ultimately a story of hope, a testament to the healing power of love and a celebration of life.

Directed by Gary Griffin, THE COLOR PURPLE features music and lyrics by Grammy Award-winning composer/lyricists Brenda Russell, Allee Willis and Stephen Bray. Pulitzer Prize-winner Marsha Norman is the librettist. The choreography is by Donald Byrd and musical direction is by Linda Twine. The production features scenic design by Tony Award-winner John Lee Beatty, lighting design by Tony Award-winner Brian MacDevitt, costume design by Paul Tazewell and sound design by Jon Weston.

THE COLOR PURPLE made its world premiere at Atlanta's ALLIANCE THEATRE in the fall of 2004 produced by ALLIANCE THEATRE by special arrangement with Creative Battery and Scott Sanders Productions.
