THIS MONTH ON NYC ARTS
Native New York
New York City is home to approximately 90,000 Native Americans. One is John Haworth, member of the Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma and director of the National Museum of the American Indian's George Gustav Heye Center. During Native American Heritage Month, Mr. Haworth is a guest editor on NYC ARTS. In Native New York, he draws attention not only to the art exhibitions, workshops and craft demonstrations at his Smithsonian Institution in Lower Manhattan, but also to other prominent New York museums that include Native American art and culture in its collections, among them the Brooklyn Museum, El Museo del Barrio, the American Museum of Natural History and Staten Island Museum. For more information and to see a full listing of events, visit NYC-ARTS.org.
Latin America in New York
Ben Rodriguez-Cubeñas, program director at the Rockefeller Brothers Fund in New York City, immigrated to New York from Cuba 20 years ago, embracing all the culture the city offers. As guest editor of Latin America in New York on NYC-ARTS, he shares his favorite places to experience Latin New York. To see a list of Ben's selections, click here. Ben is also a member of the committee for the Alliance for the Arts' Friends of the Arts Party, which supports the Alliance's arts advocacy work.
