The Ailey Extension Responds to Government Shutdown with Discounts for Government Workers and More

In light of the current government shutdown, America's Cultural Ambassadors To The World, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater will offer a special discounted rate to group visitors of The Ailey Extension through the month of December.

Located inside The Joan Weill Center for Dance, this destination for dance boasts 12 beautiful studios with views of the NYC skyline, and is the nation's largest building dedicated to dance.

The Ailey Extension offers over 80 classes per week in over 25 different dance and fitness techniques such as Horton (the modern dance technique featured in Alvin Ailey's signature classic, Revelations), Ballet, Masala Bhangra, West African, Samba, Jazz and Hip Hop. All levels are welcome, including beginners.

Throughout the month of October, The Ailey Extension's schedule will also include the Guest Artist Series, featuring Vernard J. Gilmore who has performed with The Company for over a decade. Fresh off the stage from Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater's South American tour, Vernard Gilmore will teach "Horton" at The Ailey Extension for one month only!

The Horton Technique is a major codified modern dance technique created by Alvin Ailey's mentor, Lester Horton. It is reputed to fortify, stretch, and strengthen the human body. Horton aims to correct physical faults and prepare you for any type of dancing you wish to learn.

Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater's annual holiday season at New York City Center is scheduled from December 4, 2013 - January 5, 2014. The season features premieres and new productions, along with a variety of repertory favorites and special programs.
