The Ailey Extension is excited to present three workshops in August that focus specifically on ballet technique, performance, and instruction. While studying with celebrated teachers from around the world, dancers and instructors will hone and expand their skills, and perform for small and large audiences. From Fabrice Herrault's Summer Ballet Intensive to Kat Wildish's Performing Workshop, there are workshops for dancers of many different levels, including young beginning dancers, pre-professional and professional dancers. All workshops will take place at the beautiful Ailey Studios in The Joan Weill Center for Dance (405 West 55th Street) - the nation's largest building dedicated to dance.

Fabrice Herrault 3-Week Ballet Intensive Program (for dancers ages 10-18): August 9-27, Monday-Friday
Distinguished ballet instructor Fabrice Herrault returns to The Ailey Extension for his special summer intensive program. The workshop features three levels of participation, daily technique classes, weekly showings of ballet films and choreography, and studio showings for parents and friends. Former participants have gone on to American Ballet Theatre and The Royal Ballet. "Fabrice teaches classical ballet in its purest form, technique, artistry, and musicality. He taught me not only to be a dancer, but also to be an artist," says Meghan Hinkis, member of American Ballet Theatre and 2008 intensive participant. What's more, over the course of his workshop, Fabrice will be joined by special guest teachers Sofiane Sylve of San Francisco Ballet; Alexandre Proia, teacher at New York's Peridance Capezio Center and the Joffrey School; and Paloma Herrera, principal dancer with American Ballet Theatre.

Kat Wildish "Performing in NYC" Summer Intensive: August 9-29, 2010
3 Showcase performances, August 28 & 29, 2010
Kat Wildish brings more than 30 years of teaching and performance experience from the world's great stages to this signature, hands-on three-week ballet workshop that culminates in a professionally-produced showcase at The Ailey Citigroup Theater in New York City. It includes over 30 classes, 15 hours of rehearsal time and three performances of classical repertoire. The workshop is a wonderful opportunity for dancers looking to gain performance experience, and a great chance for dance students to take a bite out of The Big Apple - The Ailey Studios are conveniently located near shopping, Broadway shows, and great restaurants.

Finis Jhung NYC Teacher Workshop: August 7 & 8, 2010
This 10-hour weekend workshop for teachers and adult beginners promises to turn mystery into mastery. Since 1972, Finis Jhung has been one of New York's most sought-after ballet instructors because of his ability to make ballet accessible to dancers of all talents, ages, and body types. His innovative teaching techniques are based on years of studying the world's best dancers in performance and on video and finding that these extraordinary artists prepare for balances, turns, and jumps in ways not taught in the traditional ballet class. At this workshop, dancers and teachers will learn the "untaught" preparations which make a world of difference, such as how to place the body and work the muscles for maximum strength, control and freedom of movement.
