Teatro SEA to Premiere Five New Works in New Monthly MicroTeatro Festival

By:

Teatro SEA, under the Artistic Direction of Dr. Manuel A. Morán, announces the premiere of "MicroTeatro/MicroTheater New York," a festival of small theatre in alternative spaces which will take place on the first Monday of each month. Micro Theater New York intends to become a space of exchange for alternate theater groups and Hispanic playwrights in New York City. The festival is produced and curated by Co-Artistic Director George Riverón.

MicroTheater is a theatrical format that features a variety of short works per evening of approximately fifteen to twenty minutes each for a maximum of fifteen audience members per show in various small spaces. Each play is performed four times per evening.

For the premiere event, Teatro SEA will be presenting five original works: three in Spanish, one in English, and one in both languages simultaneously (Spanglish). The genres to be presented include drama, musical, comedy, and musical-thriller. All of the selected Works are originals for Micro Theater and are by Hispanic Playwrights from the United States and Spain.

The premiere plays and musicals include:

East 140th St. and St. Ann's (La Lupe) by Victoria Collado, directed by Tatiana Pandiani, choreography by Melvis Santa, and starring Victoria Collado and Reynaldo Pulido. La Lupe gets to New York City in 1963 with a small bag, and big dreams. It doesn't take her long to figure out she's not in Havana anymore, and getting to her new home in the Bronx will not be easy. Will she make it to East 140th STreet and St. Ann's Avenue?

Cántame, Mi Amor by Julie De Grandy, directed by George Riveron and starring Sebastian Stimman and Cassandra Lopez. A production by Teatro del Aire. A detective is contracted by a jealous lover, to follow a deductive singer in a bar. A musical thriller with a lot of drama.

Lightning Strikes Twice by Noemi de la Puente (book & lyrics) and Jaime Lozano (music), directed by David Davila, and starring April Ortiz and Florencia Cuenca. A widow prepares to go out on her first date in decades, with the support of her daughter, but sometimes the roles reverse as the younger generation shows the older generation about taking risks. A musical drama.

Superterapia, by Carolina Laursen, directed by Lula L. and starring Natalia Ivana Escobar. "Supertherapy" for Super Hero couples. A married couple need to play superhero roles to have a little sex. Batman and Wonder Woman in a super sexy comedy.

Suéltate by Marc Egéa, directed by Omar D. Cruz and starring Zuleinette Ralat. Serio-comedic monologue. A loud mouthed street sweeper expounds on suicide...on the roof of a skyscraper.

The works will be presented simultaneously and consecutively four times each night with a 15-20 minute break between each show. The tickets are on sale for $5 per show, per person at the theatre box office.

MicroTeatro begins Nov 7th and continues Dec 5, 2016 from 8pm - 11:30pm in the spaces of Teatro SEA, 107 Suffolk St. New York, NY 10002. For more information contact Theatro SEA at: microtheaterny@sea-ny.org | 212.529.1545.
