A gender-bending twist on a classic!

Long-running Broadway smash A CHORUS LINE is a popular title among regional theaters around the world and a brand new Canadian production will showcase a male actor in the leading role of Cassie, now referenced as Casey.

Blue Canoe Theatrical Productions in Kingston is presenting A CHORUS LINE this month featuring actor Hunter Agnew as Casey as BroadwayWorld reported here.

The actor utilized Facebook to comment on the casting, relating, "Casey; An experienced performer with exuding talent, out of work and clinging onto the only thing he has left, dance. In his desperation he comes back to New York to start over, revisits his unsettled past and takes a chance in efforts to do what he loves. "I don't want to wait on tables. And what I really don't want to do is to teach other people what I should be doing myself!" - Come see @bluecanoepro production of A Chorus Line at The Grand Theatre. July 22nd - 27th, 2015. #‎joinourline".

Of note, a male take on Cassie named Casy was utilized in a 2002 Swedish production at the Gothenburg Opera, as well, portrayed by Lars Bethke, while other international and regional productions have reportedly provided gender-bending takes on other characters in the piece, as well.

The official description of Blue Canoe's A CHORUS LINE is as follows: "Blue Canoe's 30th Production and part of the The Kick & Push Festival. Blue Canoe is proud to present its 30th production, the winner of 10 Tony Awards including the Tony Triple Crown (Best Book, Score and Musical) and the Pulitzer Prize for Drama. The official website also notes: "This production is performed by special arrangement with TAMS- Witmark Music Library, New York, NY, despite the best efforts of Bottle Tree."
