THE MASTER AND MARGARITA Returns For Encore Run At The Russian Arts Theater And Studio!

The Russian Arts Theater and Studio (TRATS) continues its 2018-2019 season with an encore run of The Master and Margarita, Or, The Devil Comes to Moscow, a play based on Mikhail Bulgakov's cult masterpiece The Master and Margarita, adapted by Jean-Claude van Itallie from a translation by Sergei Kobiakoff. Staged by renowned Russian director Aleksey Burago, this limited engagement will take place December 1st to December 21st at Pushkin Hall, located at the Upper West Side in Manhattan.

After a previous sold-out and critically-acclaimed run at The West End Theater, this production returns with an international cast featuring Charles Anderson, Bruce Braun, Michael Donaldson, Roman Freud, Kristina Korop, Alex Malyi, Luisa Menzen, Ariel Polanco, Riccardo Ripani, David A. Russell, Paulo Quiros, Tom Schubert, Shadrach Stanleigh, Desen Uygur, and Di Zhu.

Written in secrecy during the darkest period of Stalin's reign, The Master and Margarita is part love story, part phantasmagoria, and part biting satire. On a hot spring day, the Devil pays a visit to Moscow. His retinue includes a naked witch, a fanged assassin, a vodka swigging black cat, and a slew of other dazzling characters who soon wreak havoc among the cultural elite. But the Devil's mission quickly becomes entangled with the fate of the Master - a writer who has turned his back on his former life and taken refuge in a lunatic asylum - and his past lover, Margarita, who decides to sell her soul to save him. This December, join The Russian Arts Theater and Studio at the intimate Pushkin Hall and experience the magical and devastating world of Mikhail Bulgakov.

Critically acclaimed director Aleksey Burago is a former protege of the late Pyotr Fomenko and is currently the Artistic Director at The Russian Arts Theater and Studio. Past work in Russian stages and TV include The Hermitage Theater and Aleksandrinka Theater (Beyond Recognition), Moscow TV (Queen of Spades), Youth Theater (The Emperor's New Clothes, Stoned), Interatelier Theater (Fandor and Liz), and The Baltic House Theater (Camille). Among his productions in New York are Ah, My Dear Andersen! (New York Time Out Critic's Pick), Wonder Bread (Winner of Best Show at the United Solo Fesitval) Uncle Vanya, My Uncle Chekhov, Avenue of Wonder, Crime and Punishment, Swan Song and Three Sisters.
