CitySalt Theatricals proudly presents the new musical The Crack in the Ceiling, presented as part of the 19th Annual New York International Fringe Festival - FringeNYC. Featuring book, music, and lyrics by James Harvey, directed by Stephen Tyler Davis.

The Crack in the Ceiling will play five performances at Venue #13: Lynn Redgrave Theatre at Culture Project (45 Bleecker Street, New York, NY 10012). Performances are Saturday, August 15th at 8:30 pm; Tuesday, August 18th at 2:00 pm; Saturday, August 22nd at 6:30pm; Tuesday, August 25th at 8:00 pm; and Friday, August 28th at 2:30pm.

Starring Kristy Cates* (Wicked, original Broadway cast), Josh Grisetti* (It Shoulda Been You on Broadway), and Nicky Torchia* (Kinky Boots on Broadway).

Ellen, a distraught single mother, discovers a crack in her kitchen ceiling -- and no one seems to be able to repair it. As a bizarre series of handymen, plumbers, and spiritual healers try to solve the problem, Ellen finds that more than her home is at risk: her family and her sanity are increasingly put to the test in this dark musical comedy.

ABOUT THE CAST & CREATIVE TEAM:

JAMES HARVEY (Book, Music, and Lyrics) is an up-and-coming musical theatre composer whose work blends the tragic, the absurd, the comic and the heartwarming in a melodic contemporary package. A graduate of NYU Steinhardt's music theory and composition program, James was hand picked by composer Alan Menken (Little Shop of Horrors, Beauty and the Beast, Newsies) for a prestigious scholarship based on his exciting work and the promise of work to come, and he has delivered with music that has been described as "lively and clever" (New Jersey Monthly). The Crack in the Ceiling premiered at the 2013 New York Musical Theatre Festival. Other projects in the works include the official musical adaptation of the 2012 documentary, The Queen of Versailles, which chronicles David Siegel, owner and CEO of Westgate Resorts, whose extravagant lifestyle is compromised in the financial crisis of 2008. James is also the author of Dream Job, a ten minute musical presented at the BMI Musical Theatre Workshop. James is a member of the BMI Musical Theatre Workshop and the Dramatists Guild. His work has been seen at such New York venues as 54 Below, The Beechman Theatre, The Duplex and The Triad. James is an experienced pianist and singer and has been known to dabble as an actor and a musical comedian. www.JamesHarvey.com

STEPHEN TYLER DAVIS (Director) is a theatre artist originally from Huntsville, Alabama. He is the author of plays, poetry, and original musicals such as Bad Kiss, Huckleberry Haywood, and Monkey Boogers. He graduated with honors with a BA in Theatre from the University of Alabama in 2006. He is currently earning his MFA in Theatremaking at Sarah Lawrence College in Bronxville, NY while also serving at the president of the Graduate Student Senate. Stephen has worked as a writer, performer, director, and designer for the New York Musical Theatre Festival. He toured the country for two seasons for TheatreWorks USA, and can be found on Broadway day and night as the singing hologram of Ripley's Believe it or Not Museum in Times Square. Stephen is a founder of Blue Plate Broadway, now going into its 6th season. He is a proud member of ASCAP and the Actors Equity Association.

KRISTY CATES (Ellen) was a member of the original Broadway cast of Wicked as understudy to Idina Menzel. She went on to open the National Tour as Elphaba and played the role for a year in the highly acclaimed Chicago sit-down production. Select off-Broadway: Jerry Springer, the Opera at Carnegie Hall, Maddy in the original cast of Click, Clack, Moo! at the Lucille Lortel (directed by John Rando), and most recently as Shirley Partridge in The Brady Bunch. Favorite select regional roles include Mother in Ragtime, Betty Blake in Will Rogers' Follies, Fraulein Kost in Cabaret and Gloria in Boeing Boeing. Kristy is a professional voiceover artist and is currently serving as Creative Director for the Musical Theatre department at the New York Film Academy.
