Stage Russia Announces April Schedule for Free Streaming Of Russian Theatre In HD

Stage Russia, the leading worldwide provider of Russian Theatre in HD, has announced that it will be continuing free streaming of its content via the Vimeo platform. These free online events, which will run weekend long through the end of April, is in addition to other Stage Russia streaming initiatives, which includes free online access via the university and public library platform Kanopy Streaming.

Upcoming this weekend, from April 10th to April 12th, Stage Russia will present renowned choreographer Anzelika Cholina's award-winning staging of "Anna Karenina", a reimagining of the Tolstoy classic told entirely in dance and movement, and filmed before a live audience from Moscow's legendary Vakhtangov Theatre. Next, on April 17th to April 19th, Timofey Kulyabin's Golden Mask Winner, "Onegin", will be made available. Finally, on April 24th to April 26th, audiences will have an opportunity to revel in Yury Butusov's unimaginably touching production of "King Lear", featuring Russian stage and screen star, Konstantin Raikin in the title role. All filmed performances are presented in their original Russian with English subtitles.

Stage Russia managing director, Edward Aronoff, an American producer based in Moscow, has made it his mission to shed a bright light on the Russian theatre scene, considered by many in the know to be among the finest in the world. "Politically, it's an uphill battle getting Westerners to sample these remarkable works. There's a preconceived notion of Russia as a knee-jerk enemy. But those who've opened themselves up to these films, to these productions, are forever changed by them.

Actor Ralph Fiennes understands well the difficulty in promoting Russian culture, but believes art can transcend divisions and disputes between countries. "I have personally felt enriched by my friendships with my encounters with Russian writers and artists and theatre directors and filmmakers ever since I was a student and, I think the richness of Russian culture, and our culture too, there is a wonderful place where we can interact."

Access to this week's free presentation of "Anna Karenina" can be accessed on the Stage Russia site at https://www.stagerussia.com/anna-karenina-weekend-streaming
