Join Thomas Robert Simpson and Laura Elaine Ellis on AfroSolo Television this Friday (July 18th). The live broadcast takes place at 6:30 pmLaura Ellis on Comcast Cable Station 76 in San Francisco. They will discuss Ms. Ellis' career as a choreographer/dancer and her world premiere performance of "i that is we" in AfroSolo Arts Festival 15, August 21 -24 at The Marsh in San Francisco. "i that is we" is an original dance work inspired by Nina Simone's song Four Women, It was created in collaboration with poet Marc Bamuthi Joseph, composer Ajayi Lumumba, and photographer Kimara Dixon.
Ms. Ellis is principal dancer with two award winning dance companies, Anne Bluethenthal and Dancers (since 1990) and Dimensions Dance Theater (since 1986). She has also presented solo and ensemble works in the Bay Area Dance Series; SUMMERFEST/DANCE 1995 Gala and SUMMERFEST/DANCE Series in 1996, 1997, 2001 and 2003. She is a founding member and executive director of The African & African American Performing Arts Coalition that currently presents the Black Choreographers Festival: Here & Now. She recently choreographed works for the Living Word Festival and Kendra Kimbrough Dance Ensemble.
